I’ve written before about the thesis novel I’m working on. It’s a science fiction space opera. And while its world is more Firefly than Star Trek, it might not exist if their hadn’t been a Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart.
There are great science fiction writers out there that I have come to love – but that’s not how I came to the genre. I initially came to science fiction through film and television. And the first science-fiction show I remember loving on television was Star Trek: The Next Generation. And among the many reasons that I loved it, was Stewart’s portrayal of the tough, wise, principled captain of U.S.S. Enterprise-D.
I’m supposed to be editing my book as we speak – and I’ll get back to it here, but I just felt like I needed to take a moment to say thank you to Patrick Stewart for being one of the inspirational ancestors of every science fiction story I will ever write.
