Hello everyone! Thanks for visiting my page.
My name is Jenel Alan and I love writing science fiction and fantasy stories for teens and adults. My two latest works are my science fiction short story “The Roller Coaster at the End of the World” which was published online in the Penman Review and my young adult fantasy novel Rell which is available through Amazon.
I grew up in southeastern Idaho on a steady diet of starships, fairy tale retellings, time travel tales, and books about girls with swords, and I fell in love with all things sci-fi and fantasy. Now I write my own stories of faraway lands, true loves, and space adventures for both teens and adults.
In my non-fiction life, I live in coastal Washington with my amazing husband, who is, thankfully, a fellow nerd. In my day job I’m a tenured history professor at a community college. I have a PhD in history from the University of Utah, an MA in history from Boise State University, and because two graduate degrees weren’t enough (did I mention I’m a nerd?) I’m in the process of obtaining an MFA in Creative Writing at Southern New Hampshire University.
I’m currently editing a completed novel called A Single Dark Thread which is a “Sherlock meets Austen with magic” fantasy for adults and working on The Bins, a science-fiction space adventure with romance. Look for more information on these projects soon, and thanks again for taking the time to visit my site!
